    Masonville man pleads not guilty to murdering pregnant wife, stabbing children

    DELAWARE COUNTY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The Masonville Man accused of murdering his pregnant wife and stabbing his two children has been indicted by a Delaware County Grand Jury.

    District Attorney Shawn Smith announced on Wednesday that Drew Garnier, 32, was indicted on eight counts for the murder of 29-year-old Samantha Garnier and the attempted murder of their two children, ages 6 and 9.

    Count One accuses Garnier of Murder in the Second Degree, a Class A-I Felony, for allegedly stabbing and killing his wife, Samantha Garnier. If convicted, he faces a potential sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

    Counts Two and Three of the indictment charge Garnier with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree, a Class B Felony. He is accused of attempting to kill his two children. If convicted, he faces a potential sentence of 25 years to life in prison.

    Count Four charges Garnier with Criminal Use of a Firearm in the First Degree, a Class B Felony. It is alleged that he possessed a deadly weapon from which a shot, readily capable of producing death or other serious injury could be discharged. If convicted of this charge, he faces up to 25 years in state prison.

    Counts Five through Eight accuse Garnier of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the Third Degree, a Class D Felony. It is alleged that he possessed two large-capacity ammunition feeding devices, an AK-47 Assault Weapon, and a Tactical ST15 Assault Weapon.

    Garnier pleaded not guilty to each charge.

    He was remanded to the custody of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office. The case has been scheduled for a conference on September 30.

    “I commend the New York State Police for their fast response and thorough investigation into this tragic case,” said Smith.

    On September 5, Garnier was arrested for the stabbing of his wife and kids , with his wife succumbing to injuries at the hospital later on.

    According to police, Samantha was airlifted to Wilson Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead. One child was to Wilson Medical Center and transferred to Upstate Medical Center. The second child was airlifted to Upstate Medical Center. Police say both children are expected to survive.
