SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) – New York State has already experienced a record number of tornadoes this year, and the tally continues to climb.

The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down in the Jefferson County town of Worth on Monday .

While damage surveys are typically conducted on the ground, the NWS says that was not the case this time due to “limited access into the wooded area.”

Instead, a damage scar consistent with a tornado touchdown was observed on satellite imagery.

In addition to the Worth tornado, a pair of EF-0 tornadoes touched down in Western New York on Monday; one in Grand Island and the other in Pembroke.

The 2024 tornado tally here in the Empire State is now up to 32.

The previous record for most tornadoes in a single year in New York was 25, occurring in 1992.

Twenty-three of the tornadoes this year occurred in July alone, setting a new record for that month as well.
