    Ryan Shafer wins PBA50 Tour King Pin Lanes Open

    ROME, N.Y. (WETM) – Horseheads’ Ryan Shafer added another first place prize to his already historic career.

    Shafer won the Pro Bowlers Association (PBA) 50 Tour King Pin Lanes Open in Rome, New York on Sunday. It was the 37th overall Regional Title for Shafer, the 1987 PBA Rookie of The Year and five-time PBA Tour Champion.

    Shafer bowled a 278 in the final vs Robert Mockenhaupt of Succasunna, New Jersey who bowled a 219 . Ryan tallied a 232.93 average in the tournament racking up 2,500 total points. Final prize money for the regional event was $1,500 earned for Shafer.

    The most decorated professional bowler in Twin Tiers History, Shafer was named the PBA50 Eastern Player of The Year in 2022. That year, Shafer won the Lehigh Open and the Crystal Lanes Open in Corning.

    Shafer, 58, still holds the record for most consecutive strikes on television with 18. Shafer has grossed over $1.7 million in his career and includes six overall victories on the tour.
