Clouds, but no rain and sun back in play

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Only a few days until the start of Fall. And while it looks like it may rain our air mass at the surface appears to be not conducive to maintain any steady moisture that could have come our way.

Clouds are draped across the state and temperatures statewide remain pretty mild. Our satellite and radar spotted a few light showers over the Twin Tiers this afternoon, and they tried their best to hold together especially over Tioga and Steuben Counties, but they just fizzled upon arrival.

This is because in reality we are still under the influence of high pressure and it is steering the offending low away and not giving it a chance to drop a few drops on us. The high will translate into sunnier skies once the low moves completely away from the coast.

However, there is a system I am following that will roll off of the Rockies. This system will be our next weathermaker by midweek next week.

Tonight expect lows in the 50s, then early fog and in the low-80s Thursday.
