Update, 4:53 p.m., The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office has released the name of the suspect from the all-day search in Lansing.
According to Police, 19-year-old Yair Elver Perez-Raymundo was located and arrested at 2:07 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19. Police said the second person who left the residence with Perez-Raymundo was also located and found unharmed.
Perez-Raymundo was arrested on the charges of reckless endangerment in the second degree, and menacing in the second degree, both Class A misdemeanors.
Police said Perez-Raymundo is being held at the Tompkins County Jail and is pending further processing.
Update: Police in Tompkins County have confirmed the suspect was found and arrested without incident, more information is expected soon.
LANSING, N.Y. ( WETM ) — A local school district was delayed Thursday morning as police continue to search for a suspect they say was responsible for a shooting/disturbance at a home in Tompkins County.
According to the Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office, a search is currently underway for a suspect who fled from the scene of a shooting at a home in Lansing early Thursday morning.
Steuben County Sheriff’s Office releases statement on recent social media threats Police said that around 12:11 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 19, deputies responded to a home on North Lansing School Road in Lansing for the report of shots fired. The report states there was a possible incident with the three residents of the home and that one of the residents made threats with and fired a long gun.
Police said the person who called 911 escaped the home and told police about the situation. Police added that while in the area of the residence, deputies heard more gunshots.
Police searched the home and the suspect was nowhere to be found, but a gun was recovered. Police said the suspect didn’t own other weapons and believed the suspect and the other resident of the home escaped into the wooded area surrounding the residence.
Fall foliage predictions for fall of 2024 The search for the suspect was on and units from the Ithaca Police Department and the New York State Police arrived at the scene to do a wide search of the surrounding area alongside sheriff’s deputies. A state police helicopter and special response teams were used in the search.
Police were in contact with the Lancing Central School District and decided to delay school for two hours while the search continues, preventing students from witnessing police activity while waiting for bus pick-ups.
Superintendent Pettograsso told police that school counselors will be readily available for students due to concerns students have for their safety as a result of the delay.
As of the writing of this article, the suspect hasn’t been found but was identified and charges are pending. Police will remain in the area throughout the day.
