    Elmira volleyball pushes past Horseheads, local scoreboard

    ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Elmira volleyball defeated Horseheads on a busy night of high school sports in the Twin Tiers.

    Defending Section IV Class AAA champions, Elmira outlasted their rivals Horseheads, on Tuesday. Despite a 3-0 score, Elmira’s power helped push past an inspired Blue Raiders team, who traded shots with the Express throughout the contest. Standout senior Madi Jones capped off the first 2 sets (25-16, 25-23), before Alivia Kerr closed out Elmira’s win (25-12).

    Elsewhere in Section IV, Corning swept Ithaca and Waverly fell to Chenango Valley. In Section V, Hornell improved to (5-0), with a 3-1 win over Canisteo-Greenwood. Lyla and Jordan Dyring led the Red Raiders, with Lyla’s 30 assists and 9 aces, paired with 15 kills from Jordan.

    In girls soccer, Elmira snapped Watkins Glen’s unbeaten streak with a 1-0 road victory. On the boys side, Elmira Notre Dame fell to Dryden 3-0.
