CAYUTA, N.Y. ( WETM ) – The Department of Environmental Conservation reports that a man is facing misdemeanor charges and violations after he allegedly shot at a crow from his vehicle on the highway in the Town of Cayuta.

The DEC states that a report came in on Sept. 1 from a person who heard the shot and had followed the vehicle to gather a description, which was reported to the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Office and the New York State Police. After receiving the report, Environmental Conservation Police Officers were contacted to assist with the incident.

Upon investigation, officers say they determined that the man had shot at the crow while sitting in his vehicle and issued him four tickets.

Two of the tickets were misdemeanors for having a loaded gun in a motor vehicle and shooting from a public highway, and the other two were violations for taking wildlife in or on a motor vehicle and taking wildlife from a public highway. Fines for these offenses range from $200 to $1,000 for each of the misdemeanors and up to $250 for the violations.

The man’s charges are pending in the Town of Cayuta Court.
