Corning man arrested after allegedly menacing trooper with machete

CATON, N.Y. ( WETM ) – A Corning man has been arrested after he allegedly menaced a police officer with a machete in the Town of Caton.

As reported by New York State Police, Dana L. McCarrick, 49, was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 25, following an incident that occurred after state police in Painted Post were called to Gridley Road for the report of a disturbance.

Upon arrival to the scene, police say that they interviewed McCarrick who then allegedly grabbed a machete from a box and displayed it toward the trooper.

After police say that they gave McCarrick several verbal commands to put the weapon down, McCarrick allegedly threw the machete toward the trooper and then attempted to run and resist arrest.

McCarrick was then arrested and taken to the state police barracks in Painted Post for processing on the following charges:

• Menacing a police officer (class C felony)
• Criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree (class D felony)
• Menacing in the second degree (class A misdemeanor)
• Resisting arrest (class A misdemeanor)
• Obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree (class A misdemeanor)
• Criminal contempt in the second degree (class A misdemeanor)

McCarrick was then taken to the Steuben County Jail for CAP court.
