HORSEHEADS, N.Y.( WETM ) – The Department of Aging had a free lunch for seniors today at the Chemung County Fairgrounds.

Seniors had to register by phone by September 19 to reserve a lunch.

The lunch was drive-through only so the event was rain or shine. This ended up being a good thing since it rained heavily half way through the event.

Some high school seniors from Notre Dame High School helped out as well. They were giving the food and some pumpkins to the seniors.

Seniors were also given some information about the Department of Aging and the benefits people have from joining it.

The seniors seemed to enjoy the event. They were able to get out of the house and get a sandwich.

“Well, I get a free turkey sandwich, and it’s great that they do this for the old folk that don’t have the money for the groceries or anything else, especially when they had base school taxes this month, says Diane Rodabaugh.

Why did not mention this before the meal. Instead of after it happened?
