Athens man sentenced jail time for weapons theft in Bradford County

SMITHFIELD TWP, Pa. ( WETM ) — A Bradford County man could see a maximum of nearly two years in jail after he was sentenced recently on a theft charge, sentence documents confirm.

Ryan C. Elliott, 27, of Athens, was recently sentenced to four months to 23 months in jail for the charge of theft by unlawful taking, information from the Bradford County District Attorney’s Office said.

Documents revealed that Elliott was arrested in September 2023 after he stole firearms from a relative in Smithfield Two and later sold them at a local business for cash, and claimed he owned the weapons.

Elliott was given five years of probation which can be revoked if he fails to complete his sentence or gets charged with any new offenses, and he would be sentenced to harsher punishments, sentencing documents stated.
