CORNING, N.Y. ( WETM ) — Corning residents might have to change when they do some of their chores over the next two weeks to accommodate hydrant flushing.

The City of Corning Water Department is going to flush hydrants around the city on weekdays from Monday, Sept. 30, through Friday, Oct. 11. Flushing will take place between 7 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. each day.

People who live near hydrants being flushed might have low water pressure and/or discolored water. The water discoloration doesn’t cause any health problems, but it could cause problems with laundry. City residents should avoid doing laundry during hydrant flushing and check for water discoloration before using it.

Residents with discolored water should run the cold tap until the water runs clear before using it. According to the City of Corning, this will reduce the potential of discolored water entering hot water tanks.
