ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – It’s time to go back in time with 18 Sports Flashback.

Let’s go back to November 23, 1996 and one memorable game in Ithaca. Cornell University football surged past visiting Penn 24-21 in a thriller. The Big Red won the game and closed out their season 28 years ago without All-American and future NFL player Chad Levitt in the backfield.

Levitt, who was out with an injury, was just 58 yards away from breaking the legendary Ed Marinaro’s all-time rushing record for Cornell with 4,715.

Cornell’s Brad Kiesendahl carried the ball 32 times for 130 yards. Plus, Cornell quarterback Scott Carroll threw for three touchdowns on 244 yards in the air.

Cornell finished the season with a (4-6) overall record but with a winning IVY League mark of (4-3). It was the first win for Cornell in six years over Penn. The Cornell football program of today hosts Albany Saturday at 1 pm.
