ELMIRA, N.Y. ( WETM ) – A memorial and scholarship fund has been established to honor the legacy of Norman A. Mordue, a Vietnam War veteran and long-time Chief Federal Judge for the Northern District of New York, who was born and raised in Elmira.

The Norman A. Mordue Memorial and Scholarship Fund is a fund that has been created to honor Judge Mordue’s legacy by supporting the power of education and the ability it has to transform the lives of the next generation of students.

Part of the fund’s mission is to award an annual $2,500 scholarship to a deserving Elmira High School student who demonstrates the values of leadership, service and academic accomplishments. The Norman A. Mordue Memorial and Scholarship Fund will provide the scholarship, which will begin being awarded to students in 2025.

To raise money for the fund, a ’70s vs. 80s – A Musical Battle’ fundraising event will be held on Sunday, Oct. 20, at the Clemens Center. General admission tickets for the event are $39 and all proceeds will benefit the Norman A. Mordue Memorial and Scholarship Fund. Tickets can be purchased online at the following link .

A commemorative plaque will also be placed at the Thomas J. Hurley Athletic Complex at Elmira High School to mark his connection to the community and legacy in Elmira’s history.
