SOUTHERN TIER, N.Y. ( WETM ) — Southern Tier residents can help restock the country’s blood supply amid the devastation caused by hurricanes in the southeast by participating in upcoming blood drives.

According to the American Red Cross, more than 100 blood drives in the areas impacted by Hurricane Helene have been canceled since the hurricane made landfall. People with urgent medical care needs depend on blood and platelet donations, and more donations in other parts of the country are necessary to make up for the lack of donations coming from areas impacted by recent hurricanes.

Southern Tier residents can help people get essential blood transfusions by donating at blood drives in Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben counties in October. As an added incentive, anyone who donates blood, plasma, or platelets by the end of the month will get a $10 Amazon gift card and be entered for the chance to win one of three $5,000 gift cards. People interested in donating blood can view all eligibility requirements on the Red Cross’s website .
