Keough lifts Elmira ND girls soccer past Trumansburg on Senior Night, Horseheads and Edison earn big wins

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – Elmira Notre Dame, Horseheads, and Edison girls soccer each delivered big wins on special nights.

Tuesday night was one for the history books in local high school girls soccer. Elmira Notre Dame senior Makenna Keough scored both Crusaders’ goals, in a senior night victory over Trumansburg. Edison shut out Whitney Point to earn their program’s 1st ever win, on senior day. Horseheads rallied back for a double-overtime win against Ithaca.

Standout Elmira Notre Dame senior Makenna Keough delivered a goal in both halves of the Crusaders’ 2-1 win over Trumansburg. After the senior’s 2nd score, with 22 minutes left in the 2nd half, the Crusader defense stepped up, fending off several late chances from the Blue Raiders.

Across town, Horseheads defeated Ithaca 2-1, in double-overtime. After falling behind in the 1st half, Horseheads’ Maddie Ribble evened the score with 10:55 to go in the 2nd. The game would remain tied until the final 3 minutes of the 2nd overtime, when Sydney Blunt scored off of a rebound to lift the Blue Raiders to victory.

On the boys side, Horseheads and Ithaca played to a scoreless tie and Corning rocked Elmira at home. The Hawks’ 5-1 win was paced by a hat trick from Taylor Freelove, as well as goals from Regis Farren, and Landyn Proudfoot.
