Road closure starts in Corning

CORNING, N.Y. ( WETM ) — A road in Corning will be closed in segments over the next few weeks.

According to the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office , parts of county Route 44 (River Road) in the Town of Corning will be closed to all traffic for a pipe replacement project from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. for two or three days each week.

The closure starts on Wednesday, Oct. 9, and the road will be closed from the Chemung County Line to Murphy Road. This portion of the road will be closed on Thursday, Oct. 10 as well. The following week, River Road will be closed from Murphy Road to Brown Hollow Road from Tuesday, Oct. 15, through Thursday, Oct. 17. From Monday, Oct. 21, through Wednesday, Oct. 23, the road will be closed from Flashphaler Road to the Village of South Corning Line.

There won’t be any on-site detours for these closures, so motorists who would typically take River Road will need to plan ahead.
