Bath man arrested on theft and drug charges

CAMPBELL, N.Y. ( WETM ) – A Bath man has been arrested following an investigation into a reported theft in the Town of Campbell.

As reported by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office, William D. Schaffer, 56, was arrested on Monday, Oct. 7, on the charges of grand larceny in the fourth degree (class E felony) and criminal possession of a controlled substance in the seventh degree.

Schaffer’s charges stem from an incident where he allegedly stole equipment worth over $1,000 from the home of a person who had recently died. It is further alleged that Schaffer also possessed suspected meth.

As a result, Schaffer had his charges read to him in CAP court and was returned to the Steuben County Jail.
