ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – It’s time to go back in time with 18 Sports Flashback.

We go back 30 years to the Section IV Class A Football Championship at Cornell University. Horseheads battled Union-Endicott and the game went all the way to overtime. In the end, Horseheads beat Union-Endicott 20-17 in the extra session.

Future D-I player at Maine Geoff Gary was the quarterback that night after future hall of famer Rick Gryska was out with a knee injury. Gary and the Horseheads ground attack proved to be the difference in the win over the Tigers.

1994 was the first outright Section IV title for the Blue Raiders during the initial introduction of the New York State Tournament. Horseheads would then go on to win Section IV Championships in 1996, 1997 and 1998 securing their dominance in the region during that era.

The Blue Raiders of today host Corning Friday night at 7 pm. For now, take a look back on this classic video from 30 years ago on 18 Sports Flashback.
