Southern Tier Memorial Wrestling Tourney returns in January

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – A top local wrestling tournament in the region will be back this season.

The 3rd Annual Southern Tier Memorial Wrestling Tournament has been made official on the calendar. This year’s edition will take place over three days starting Friday, January 10-12 at the Lecom Events Center in Elmira, formerly First Arena. Action begins with the youth division on Friday and then the high school boys and girls divisions will run through Sunday.

Nearly 30 teams from New York, Pennsylvania and even Florida will compete during the big weekend. The Southern Tier Memorial is an extension of the former Jeff Reese Memorial Tournament which ran at the arena until 2004. Also, the event pays tribute to the memory of coaching greats and hall of famers Mark Stephens of Elmira and Waverly legend Jim McCloe.
