Frost and the “S” word in the Twin Tiers

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WETM) – The coldest air of the Fall season is here.  Our overnight and early morning frost and freeze conditions are in place and now is a good time to cover the vegetation that you want to keep for at least a few more weeks. A rain and snow mix will fade into fantastic Fall weather starting Thursday and then bleeding into the weekend. There is a Frost Advisory for Tioga, PA overnight until Tuesday at 9AM.

After a chilly start to the week, our daytime temperatures rebound to about 5 to10 degrees above average to close out the week and add some sunshine into the weekend.

The overnight forecast and even into Tuesday will be a little tricky because the temperature will be right on the cusp of freezing and there is moisture in the air instead of the usual dry and clear air that causes frost conditions. So this will definitely be a hit-or-miss situation on the frost for the Twin Tiers.

That said, Tioga, PA is under a Frost Advisory until 9AM Tuesday. So here’s the part where the solar blanket comes into play for any vegetation that you think still stands a chance this Fall.

Then by midweek, a potent high rolls on in and hello sunshine! We will have several days of it where you can get a temperature in the daytime that will feel like normal for us.

Tonight there is a chance for a few of us to see a rain and snow mix. No accumulation. Temperatures in the low-30s. Then, more early rain and snow mix followed by mostly cloudy skies and off-and-on showers. High in the low-50s.
