Two juveniles arrested after late-night Big Flats Target burglary

BIG FLATS, N.Y. ( WETM ) — A 12-year-old and a 15-year-old were arrested after police say they broke into the Target in Big Flats in the middle of the night.

According to the Chemung County Sheriff’s Office, multiple departments were called to investigate two juveniles inside the Target on county Route 64 in the Town of Big Flats after hours at about 1:17 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 11. The juveniles ran away from the scene, were found at the Dandy Mini Mart on county Road 64, and were taken into the sheriff’s office’s custody.

Authorities say deputies from the Criminal Investigation Division saw an extensive amount of damage to the store’s merchandise while investigating the burglary.

The 12-year-old and the 15-year-old were both charged with third-degree burglary (a class D felony) and third-degree criminal mischief (a class E felony). They were turned over to their parents/guardians and were issued appearance tickets to appear in Family Court at a later date.

The Chemung County Sheriff’s Office Road Patrol and Criminal Investigation Division, the New York State Police Department, the Horseheads Police Department, and the Elmira Heights Police Department were involved in this investigation.
