Waverly man arrested after ‘hit and run’ vehicle crash

WAVERLY, N.Y. ( WETM ) – A Waverly man has been arrested on several charges in connection to a ‘hit and run’ property damage vehicle crash that occurred in October.

Jonathan A. Houghtalen, 38, was arrested on the charges of aggravated unlicensed operation in the first degree (class E felony), one count of endangering the welfare of a child (class A misdemeanor), DWI (misdemeanor), aggravated DWI (misdemeanor) and leaving the scene of a property damage crash (violation) as reported by the Waverly Police Department.

Police say that on the morning of Oct. 15, the police department received a report of a ‘hit and run’ property damage vehicle crash on Center Street in Waverly. After arriving at the scene, police say that a witness had gotten a license plate number for the vehicle involved and gave it to police.

Upon investigation, police say that the vehicle was then located at a home in Waverly. Police further state that the driver was then located, and upon further investigation, was determined to have been driving under the influence and had left the scene of the crash. Both of the vehicles involved considerable damage as a result.

Police say that Houghtalen is accused of driving under the influence while having a 16-year-old teen in the vehicle that morning. He is expected to appear in the Village of Waverly Justice Court in November to answer his charges.
