Waverly football crushes Tioga in clash of state champions, Cowanesque Valley tops NP-Mansfield

TIOGA CENTER, N.Y. (WETM) – Waverly football picked up a dominant over Tioga in a clash of state champions.

Waverly football earned their 6th win of the year and avenged a 2023 loss to Tioga, on Saturday. In a rematch of the Class C and D state champions from 2023, the Wolverines cruised to a lopsided victory at Haggerty Field, 50-6. Waverly stormed out of the gates with a rushing touchdown from Fletcher Good in the opening minutes. Kolsen Keathley would back up the effort, picking off the Tigers and scoring a touchdown on the ensuing drive.

The Wolverines would push the lead to 21-0, mid-way through the 2nd frame, on a touchdown pass from Ben Shaw to Ronin Ault. Waverly would again strike with 1:26 to go in the 2nd, as Good delivered another rushing score to bookmark the first half.

With the win, the Wolverines move to (6-1) on the season and remain as the top seed in Class C. Waverly will next travel to Lansing for a Friday night matchup at 7 p.m. The Tigers also return to action Friday at 7 p.m. hosting Deposit-Hancock.

In the NTL, Cowanesque Valley closed out the week’s slate of games with their 3rd straight win. The Indians rode an early scoring burst past North Penn-Mansfield 23-15.

The Panthers will next travel to Wellsboro on Friday at 7 p.m. and the Indians will host Montgomery on Saturday, also at 7 p.m.
