WETUMPKA − Publix held a grand opening for its new Wetumpka grocery store Wednesday morning.

The 48,000-square-foot grocery store and pharmacy is the anchor of the Shoppes at Fort Toulouse, which is off U.S. 231. There's another 7,000 square feet of space in the center.

Landing the Publix is the culmination of an effort lasting about 10 years, said Mayor Jerry Willis.

The store opened bright and early at 7 a.m. Regular hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily for the store. The pharmacy is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
