JMU football players foster teamwork through video games
With 64 new players, JMU football is facing its latest in this season’s series of uphill battles: build chemistry. While in-person have lent themselves toward this task, such as playing name games or going for a swim at the Westover Pool, last week’s release of EA Sports College Football 25 has built a new form of healthy comradery.
11 Dukes Named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The National Fastpitch Softball Coaches Association (NFCA) announced that 11 James Madison softball players were named 2024 Scholar All-Americans. To be eligible for the award, student-athletes must have posted a grade-point average of 3.50 or better during the 2023-24 academic year. In all, 11 JMU players were recognized, as the Dukes finished the year with a team GPA of 3.443.
JMU chemistry professor honored for outstanding teaching
Chemistry professor Barbara Reisner has been honored with the 2024 James Flack Norris Award for Outstanding Achievement in the Teaching of Chemistry. The award, presented by the Northeastern Section of the American Chemical Society, is presented annually and recognizes individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the teaching of chemistry.

Grant funding to help mark anniversary of American Revolution
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 NEWS) -- A free, Charlottesville-wide event is getting some money to help mark the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution. On Thursday, Virginia Humanities announced more than $162,000 in grants for 20 nonprofits across the Commonwealth. Locally, the University of Virginia is getting $7,500 to support the Cville Puzzle Hunt 2025.

Virginia home sales down slightly in June, but listings up 25%
The Virginia Home Sales Report, published recently by Virginia Realtors, found that home sales in the state declined slightly in June compared to the same month last year. According to the report, 10,018 homes were sold statewide this June, 974 fewer than were sold in June 2023. But, the report also indicated that overall sales activity across Virginia in 2024 was slightly outpacing the first six months of 2023 even though mortgage rates have been higher this year than last year.
