PLANT CITY, Fla. (WFLA) — A mega pet adoption event was held at the Strawberry Festival fairgrounds in Plant City on Sunday.

Hundreds of dogs were up for adoption, as nine different pet shelters across the Tampa Bay area teamed up for the all-day event at the Grimes Family Agricultural Center.

The event comes as the area sees an overflow of potential pets looking for a home.

“We’ll ask you questions, find out what your lifestyle is like and make sure that we get you the right fit,” Chelsea Waldeck, with the Hillsborough County Pet Resource Center said. “Obviously, if you’re looking for a couch potato we’re not going to give you a 7-month-old puppy that needs to run some energy so we’re going to ask those questions and try and find you the right fit.”

All adoption fees were waived. The event also offered to vaccinate, spay, neuter and microchip all of the dogs.
