    Shoppers plan to spend less than $100 for Memorial Day, survey finds

    TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Memorial Day marks the unofficial start of summer. Three Florida cities are among the top 10 destinations for the holiday weekend, according to Forbes. Destin, Panama City Beach and Pensacola Beach all made the list.

    As families plan events for Memorial Day, new data from Numerator shows shoppers plan to spend just under $100. According to the market research firm, the top five costs for the weekend include:

    1. Food
    2. Alcoholic beverages
    3. Soft drinks
    4. Decorations
    5. Party supplies

    Millions of families are planning to hit the grill and make their favorite barbecue recipes for the holiday. Leaders with the Labor Department say April is the first time grocery prices fell in 12 months.

    President Joe Biden says he plans to release a million barrels of gas from reserves to help bring down gas prices. This will happen between Memorial Day and the Fourth of July as more Americans hit the road.

    More than 38 million people are expected to over Memorial Day weekend.

    I don't think I've ever spent over $100 on Memorial Day. We barbeque and I light a candle in remembrance, and we watch Band of Brothers.
