HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Just over two hours before the concert was set to start, Morgan Wallen cancelled Friday’s show saying “I hate to reschedule shows but I powered through being sick in Tampa last night, and unfortunately woke up feeling way worse today.”
It wasn’t welcome news to Samantha Curd, who flew in just hours before from Ohio with her infant and fiancé.
“[My fiancé] forgot his ID,” she explained. “We had to run back.”
“We didn’t get to the gate until we were boarding at 11:45 and we have a four-and-a-half-month-old, so it was hectic,” Curd continued.
Only to find out the concert was canceled.
“Crazy, I wanted to puke,” she said. “It’s so sad.”
Curd flew in to see Wallen with her cousin Christina Rose, who had spent months saving money for the tickets and an Airbnb, all to celebrate her 45th birthday.
“If he really doesn’t feel well that’s fine but, man you can’t wait two hours before the concert to tell people,” Rose said.
The canceled show means vendors like Moka Brown, who spent time and money preparing for Friday’s concert, will be at a loss.
“As far as the food costs, I’m going to lose food,” Brown explained. “But at the end of the day, we just gonna stay out here and we just gonna work and continue to make it work.”
But the party didn’t end thanks to Jelly Roll, the country music artist who planned to open for Wallen.
He went to social media telling fans, “TAMPA! Dallas Bull tonight— doors open at 7 p.m. If you have a ticket to the show you get in for free. (This is for ticket holders only) FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. to come to the Dallas Bull saying anyone with a ticket would get in free.”
Tens of thousands of fans began flocking to the Dallas Bull.
Traffic was gridlocked. People were paying drivers to cut in front of them on US 301.
Several deputies came to the bar, to monitor the situation.
One of the Dallas Bull’s owners, Jose Romero, said the scene was crazy, but “this is what we live for, country music at its best.”
“It was kind of chaotic because our staff was stuck in traffic and we’re trying to get them here,” Romero explained. “I’m trying to tell them, ‘We’ll get your cars later, just park on the side and walk to the venue.'”
“They were all stuck literally, but it’s exciting,” he continued. “This is what we live for, so they’re all hype that we got this going.”
