TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A prominent home developer in South Florida is dead following an FBI raid of his home, NBC affiliate WTVJ reports .

On Tuesday, the FBI began a search of Sergio Pino’s $8 million home in Coral Gables, authorities confirmed to WTVJ.

During the raid, aerial images from the scene saw authorities removing a body under a large black tarp from the home onto a stretcher and then into the medical examiner’s van. Pino died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the FBI.

“Upon arrival, members of the FBI Miami SWAT team attempted to call out any occupants of the residence. When there was no response, the SWAT team entered the residence and conducted a methodical search to locate the subject. Ultimately, Mr. Pino was discovered alone in an upstairs bedroom,” the FBI said in a statement.

“The ultimate determination of cause of death will come from the medical examiner’s office,” the FBI added.

Pino, the head of a building empire in Miami-Dade, was at the center of an ongoing murder-for-hire investigation surrounding the divorce case between him and his wife Tatiana, who previously were married for 32 years.

A financial statement cited during a deposition in the divorce case said Pino and Tatiana’s combined net worth in 2021 was $359 million. The same deposition included another statement with a smaller figure, around $153 million, which Pino testified was accurate, saying the larger number cited in a separate statement was “a joke,” WTVJ reports.

The amount of money and how much rightfully belongs to Tatiana is the subject of the two-year divorce battle between the pair which led to a federal investigation into allegations of criminal activity, which included claims of poisoning, arson, and stalking. The investigation has resulted in the arrests of four people so far, according to WTVJ.

WTVJ reported at least a dozen law enforcement vehicles outside the home where windows were broken and residents reported hearing flash bangs.
