Dashcam video shows suspected carjacker being chased in Florida

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A dashcam video captured by Florida Highway Patrol troopers shows a car chase of a suspected carjacker in South Florida over the weekend.

According to NBC affiliate WTVJ , the chase began Sunday evening when troopers, along with several agencies, tried to stop a stolen SUV in Miami Beach.

The suspect took officials onto the highway and in between heavy traffic before two PIT maneuvers got the vehicle to stop.

The driver, Savalas Cigar, 46, reportedly approached the owner of the vehicle on Saturday, asking her for money. When she told him she didn’t have any, he grabbed a hammer and threatened her, WTVJ reported.

“I was shaking because the guy was threatening me with a hammer,” the woman told WTVJ. “(I said) ‘You’re going to destroy yourself for this and you’ll destroy my life?'”

Cigar then entered her SUV, where the victim’s brother, who she said is disabled and deaf, was still inside. He got out of the car when Cigar hopped in.

According to WTVJ, the woman’s credit card was inside her car, which Cigar had later used. She claimed the suspect also took several of her belongings.

FHP arrested Cigar, who is facing charges of fleeing police and third-degree grand theft of a vehicle.
