Florida woman headed to family cruise arrested for hiding ecstasy in duffle bag: deputies

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida woman who was on her way to a cruise port over the weekend was arrested after deputies found marijuana and ecstasy in her luggage.

On Friday, a Flagler County deputy pulled over a vehicle on I-95 for not having a valid driver’s license. Upon approaching the vehicle, the deputy noticed a strong odor of marijuana.

Jerlonda Cason, the passenger in the car, told the deputy she and the driver were headed to Port Canaveral for a family cruise.

Cason admitted to smoking marijuana in the car, but did not have a medical marijuana card, the sheriff’s office said. She also admitted to concealing ecstasy in her body.

In the vehicle were nearly 20 grams of marijuana, 14 tablets, totaling 3.28 grams of MDMA (ecstasy), and $3,960 in a duffle bag.

“Instead of going on a cruise, this woman took a ride in a Flagler County Sheriff’s Office cruiser to the Green Roof Inn,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “We do not tolerate the use of illegal drugs in Flagler County, even if you think you’re just passing through.”

Cason was arrested and is facing charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of MDMA, possession of cannabis with the intent to sell, and tampering with physical evidence, according to court records.

Her bond was set at $7,500.
