#HEYJB LIVE: Analysts discuss live 2024 primary election results

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Voters cast their ballots for the 2024 Florida primary elections Tuesday, making their choices on who they want to see run again in the November general election.

WFLA Now’s J.B. Biunno and WFLA political anchor Ty Russell are speaking with political analysts Jim Davis, a former Democratic congressman from Tampa Bay, and Tom Lee, who previously served as a Republican Florida Senate president.

Ty Russell

Ty Russell works with WFLA as our political reporter and anchor, having joined the team in June 2024.

Russell has experience covering local, statewide, and national politics, having reported on numerous rallies for former President Donald Trump and even interviewing President Joe Biden one-on-one in 2020.

Prior to working for WFLA, Russell worked at TV stations in Miami, Orlando, and Fort Myers — giving a well-rounded knowledge of the Sunshine State.

Jim Davis

Jim Davis, our Democratic political analysts, was previously a U.S. Congressman for the 11th District of Florida from 1997 to 2007.

He was also the Democratic nominee for the Florida gubernatorial race in 2006 but lost the position to Charlie Crist, who was a Republican at the time.

Davis now works as a partner with Holland & Knight’s Public Policy and Regulation Group, focusing his work on “healthcare, international trade and foreign relations, telecommunications and financial services,” according to the firm.

Tom Lee

Tom Lee, a resident of Thonotosassa, was previously a Florida state senator, having served twice from 1996 to 2006 and from 2012 to 2020.

Lee also served as the Florida Senate President from 2004 to 2006.

After resigning from the senate in 2020, Lee retired from politics.

The former state senator is also married to current U.S. Congresswoman Laurel Lee, R-Florida’s 15th Congressional District, who won her election in 2022.
