ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — The Tampa Bay Rays are giving out free tickets to fans who opt in to using the MLB’s new “Go-Ahead Entry” facial recognition technology at Tropicana Field.

Fans 18 or older who sign up to use the new “Go-Ahead Entry” at a Rays game between Aug. 30 and Sept. 5 will get two free tickets to any remaining home game, according to a marketing email from the team.

During that time frame, the Rays will face off in a three-game series against the San Diego Padres and a four-game series against the Minnesota Twins.

Gate 7 will become “Go-Ahead Entry” only, while an additional lane will be added to Gates 1, 5 and 6 with the new technology. All other lanes will still allow tickets to be scanned with the MLB Ballpark app.

To use “Go-Ahead Entry,” fans will have to download or update the MLB Ballpark app and take a selfie to enroll. Fans can then use the hands-free entry at Tropicana Field. Fans will receive a code for two free tickets the day after attending the game.

Fans will only receive two free tickets, regardless of group size. Fans are limited to one pair of tickets, even if attending multiple games that week.

Fans must make sure their tickets are added to the MLB Ballpark app account. Fans will walk up to the scanners at the ballpark, and when their face is authenticated, their tickets will be scanned automatically, allowing the fan to walk into the stadium.

The scans used to authenticate the fan will be deleted after verification, according to an FAQ section on the team’s website. Fans also have the ability to unregister for the program at any time.

For more information on the technology and to purchase tickets, visit the team’s website .
