TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The popular Scorpion rollercoaster at Busch Gardens was scheduled to close on Labor Day, however, it will now be open until Sunday.

“My daughter was raised in this park, this is one of her favorite coasters,” park visitor Amy Kiefer said.

Kiefer and several other park guests lined up to ride the attraction for the last time on Monday.

“Yeah, we have a lot of great memories and we were looking at all of our pictures last night,” Kiefer said.

According to park officials, Scorpion is only one of three coasters of its kind in the entire world.

“Eventually, it will be a time where we can’t keep supplying the ride’s parts that we need to keep the ride going,” ride maintenance supervisor Kevin Berube said.

Scorpion opened to park visitors back in the 1980s and is known for its turns, twists, and 360-degree loop.

“You don’t get rides that last this long without having a big fan club,” Berube said. “There’s people that just love to feel the sting of the Scorpion, they can’t get enough of it.”

Plans have not been announced as to what will take the place of the popular rollercoaster.
