    School bus crash with 14 students aboard sends driver, woman to hospital after vehicle runs stop sign

    WILDWOOD, Fla. (WFLA) — A bus driver and 14 students were involved in a serious crash Friday morning after a woman ran a stop sign, causing a collision in Sumter County.

    According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 68-year-old Bushnell woman in a Ford Escort Wagon was traveling eastbound on CR-222 in Wildwood around 8:35 a.m.

    At the same time, a Sumter County school bus, operated by a 50-year-old Wildwood woman, was traveling south on CR-223.

    Troopers said the driver of the Ford ran the stop sign at the intersection of the two roads and was struck by the school bus.

    The driver of the Ford suffered serious injuries, and the school bus driver suffered minor injuries. They were both taken to a nearby hospital.

    FHP said the 14 middle and high school students on board have all been released to their parents. Officials did not report any injuries among the students.
