COCHRANE, Ont. (WFLA) — A small black bear found injured in the middle of a Canadian highway was fed an American staple before being handed over to animal services.

Over Labor Day weekend, a local news outlet reported that the cub was found by two men in Cochrane, Ontario. The duo transported the cub on a 10-hour drive, feeding it Taco Bell, as they drove to Windsor.

According to the Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR), the bear was “frightened” and “listless” when it arrived. The cub was taken to another facility, “Bear with Us,” which specialized in bear rehabilitation.

“It looked like he’d been hit by a vehicle, which the people who took him back to Windsor surmised,” Bear With Us founder and president Mike McIntosh told the outlet.

The cub, believed to be around nine months old, had severe head trauma and body bruises.

The video shows the bear receiving food and liquids and being transferred to the “Bear With Us” facility.

“He’s come right around. I wouldn’t say he’s better yet. He still walks like he’s pretty sore, but he’s eating and drinking like a little bear should. I would say he’s probably 80 percent recovered now,” McIntosh said.
