OLDSMAR, Fla. ( WFLA ) — Surveillance video from a pet store in Oldsmar showed a woman browsing the baby bird section, before picking one up, stuffing it in her bag, and allegedly walking out.

The incident occurred at Everything Birds, located at 180 Race Track Road in Oldsmar around 9:52 a.m. on Saturday morning, as the store was opening, in preparation for an event.

The video showed the woman reaching her hand in a petter and stealing the Black Headed Caique.

According to an employee at the store, Kirsten Cunningham told WFLA.com that the baby bird is worth $2,400.

“We just want the bird’s safe return so we can care for it properly,” Cunningham said.

She added that the baby bird requires formula and cannot eat on its own yet.

The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed deputies are investigating the incident. No other details were given as the investigation is ongoing.

what a dumb setup for keeping birds safe. All she had to do was reach in and grab it. I've seen this setup in other pet stores with birds and small animals, and they're just asking for people to steal them. The pet store is partly to blame.
