PASS-A-GRILLE BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — Fencing now surrounds the popular Paradise Grille at Pass-a-Grille beach as a nourishment project continues to move up the shoreline.

140-thousand cubic yards of sand is being brought in from the Pass-A-Grille inlet to the area.

The south end of the beach from 3rd Avenue to Paradise Grille will reopen this week, but as a new phase of the nourishment project begins, the beach from Paradise Grille to just past 15th Avenue will now be closed until late September.

Fencing has been installed around Paradise Grille and the beach behind the grille is closed.

Paradise Grille and all other businesses will remain open during the project.

“The great Pass-A-Grille businesses that are down here, from restaurants, and shops and hotels, etc. are all open during the nourishment project and we certainly want to encourage them to continue patronizing them,” said Marc Portugal, with the City of St. Pete Beach.

The nourishment project aims to replace sand lost during storms and from normal erosion.

“It’s the ultimate recycling project. A lot of the sand that we’re putting on the beach was probably here a short time ago,” said Dr. John Bishop, Pinellas County Coastal Management Coordinator.

The final phase of nourishment will take place between 16th Avenue and 22nd Avenue once this phase has concluded.

The entire project is expected to be completed by late November.
