CYPRESS CREEK, Fla. (WFLA) — A student in Pasco County was arrested for threats made on social media, the Pasco Sheriff’s Office (PSO) announced Monday.

The sheriff’s office said that the student was arrested for disruption to school function after online threats circulated with tags that included “Cypress Creek High School,” “Cypress Creek Middle School,” and “Zephyrhills High School.”

PSO said the photo that circulated online had originated out of state and had been shared in other school districts in the Tampa Bay area.

“There are no known threats to any Pasco County Schools,” PSO wrote in a Facebook post . “We encourage our community members to always report suspicious activity or behavior.”

The sheriff’s office also encouraged parents and guardians to speak with their students about the consequences of making threats online, both serious and as a joke.
