SAN JUAN, P.R. (WFLA) — The U.S. Coast Guard suspended their search for a missing 22-year-old woman over the weekend after recovering her body on Monday afternoon.

Cimone Alicia Dawson, of Indianapolis, was visiting Condado Beach in San Juan with her friends when two of them got caught in a rip current with her on Sunday night.

A bystander reported the incident around 6:32 p.m. after they heard screaming at the beach and saw two people in distress in the water.

The Coast Guard said the woman’s friends were rescued and brought to shore by local bystanders and authorities. However, the woman was not found that night.

On Monday, local authorities recovered her “submerged and unresponsive” off the beach.

If you find yourself caught in a rip current, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission says to swim parallel to the shore, not against the current, to escape, float, or tread water if you cannot escape, and to yell or call for assistance.
