    Woman dead after head-on crash in Lakeland: police

    LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — An Auburndale woman is dead and two others are injured after a crash in Lakeland on Wednesday, the Lakeland Police Department announced.

    Around 10:31 a.m., 39-year-old Moises Perez Martinez was driving a red Toyota Celica westbound on East Memorial Boulevard when her vehicle crossed center lanes and collided with a grey Ford pickup truck head-on.

    The Lakeland Police Department Patrol Units, Polk County Fire Rescue, and the Lakeland Fire Department responded to the scene and attempted life-saving efforts.

    The driver, a 71-year-old man, and passenger, a 75-year-old woman, of the Ford truck were taken to Lakeland Regional Health for serious bodily injuries.

    The cause of the crash is still under investigation.

    It's called distracted driving, it has nothing to do with nationality, or had a medical episode. Crossing over into on coming traffic is most likely distracted driving or a medical episode.
