Specialty K-9 license plates available for Florida drivers

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida drivers can cruise the roadways with a specialty license plate, in support of K-9s.

The exclusive license plates feature St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Ryker and Marion County’s K-9 Drago.

When Floridians order the plates, $25 of their order will directly go toward K9s United , which will provide training for officers and the essential equipment for the K-9s and K-9 units they need to stay safe in the field. Funds also provide nearly $75,000 in annual funding for the dogs.

The organization needs 386 more plates to sell, out of their pre-sale goal of 3,000, before Oct. 15, when they will go into production.

“We are so grateful to the Florida drivers who have proactively pre-ordered our specialty license plate, but we need additional help to meet our 3,000-plate goal to get them into production,” said Debbie Johnson, president and founder of K9s United. “This plate is a unique way law enforcement supporters and dog lovers can help fuel the vital training, lifesaving equipment and crucial legislation K9 teams need to stay safe while serving their communities on the front line.”

• All you need is your Florida driver’s license and a vehicle registered in your name
• Price-per-plate: $34
• Your tag doesn’t need to be expiring, but an early renewal costs an additional $28
• When ordered, customers will receive a voucher to take to your DMV once it’s available
