    Tropical Storm Gordon forms in the Atlantic

    TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tropical Storm Gordon formed in the Atlantic Friday, the National Hurricane Center said.

    According to the NHC’s 11 a.m. update, Gordon was located about 990 miles west-northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands and had maximum winds of 40 mph.

    The storm will continue to move further west through the weekend, but little change in strength is expected over the weekend. As of this report, it is moving west-northwest at 12 mph.

    Experts forecast that the storm will continue to strengthen before weakening Saturday.

    Disturbances in the Atlantic

    Leeward Islands should expect rainfall and thunderstorms due to low pressure located less than 100 miles east.

    Tracking the Tropics

    Due to dry air in the area, a chance of development is not likely. A chance of development in the next seven days is 20%.

    A non-tropical area of low pressure located off the southeastern U.S. coastline could form this weekend bringing subtropical or tropical development into next week.

    A chance of development is 30% within the next seven days.
