    Florida drops out of top 10 happiest states after ranking No. 8 in 2023, report shows

    TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — After making the top 10 list of one of the happiest states across America in 2023, Florida missed the mark this year, according to an annual study from WalletHub .

    According to a CNBC report in 2023 , which looked at the same study last year, Florida was ranked No. 8 among the happiest states.

    This year, Florida dropped to No. 14.

    While happiness can be measured and interpreted in different ways, the study looked at a combination of emotional and physical health, work environment, and community and environment across all 50 states, while also factoring in adult depression and sleep rates.

    Here’s how the top 10 ranked, including their total score:

    1. Hawaii (68.71)
    2. Maryland (64.67)
    3. New Jersey (62.46)
    4. Utah (62.20)
    5. Delaware (60.43)
    6. Minnesota (60.43)
    7. Connecticut (60.14)
    8. Idaho (58.84)
    9. Nebraska (58.60)
    10. Massachusetts (58.24)

    Florida came in at No. 14, with a total score of 55.38. Louisiana took last place, with a score of 32.97.

    Hawaii’s reputation as an island paradise reflects residents’ satisfaction with life, as the study reports great physical health, the longest life expectancy in America, and the lowest unemployment rates.

    Highest-rated restaurants in Tampa by diners

    Maryland had the highest percentage of household earnings more than $75,000 per year, as New Jersey ranked second-highest for people with supportive relationships and love in their lives.

    States with the lowest adult depression rates were Hawaii, New Jersey, Nebraska, Illinois, and New York. The highest depression rate states were Oklahoma, Arkansas, West Virginia, Maine, and Tennessee.

    Regarding adequate sleep rates, Vermont, Minnesota, Colorado, Nebraska, and Oregon ranked the best, while states like Hawaii, Ohio, and Alabama were at the bottom.
