TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The National Hurricane Center is monitoring a disturbance off the Southeastern coast of the U.S., as Tropical Storm Gordon remains in the Central Atlantic Saturday morning.

A non-tropical area of low pressure, located a few hundred miles off the coastlines of Northern Florida and southeast of Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina, has a 50% chance for development over the next seven days.

The NHC said the system could develop subtropical or tropical characteristics as it sits over warm waters, as the disturbance tracks north.

“The Carolina coastline should be watching the possible area of development for the middle of the upcoming week which has a medium chance of developing through next weekend,” Max Defender 8 Meteorologist Amanda Holly said.

Tropical Storm Gordon forms in the Atlantic

In the central Atlantic, Tropical Storm Gordon continues to move west-northwestward at 9 mph in a “poorly organized” manner, the hurricane center said.

The storm has maximum sustained winds at 45 mph, but is not a threat to the U.S. as of this report.
