TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — If you’re new to the Sunshine State or you’ve been here for years, you notice quickly that during the summer months, it rains, and rains, and rains. Some of us can’t wait to be able to make outdoor plans and not have to worry about storms arriving.

The good news is rainy season isn’t going to last much longer. In fact, we are starting to see a few signs that drier air is right around the corner.

Rain chances are significantly less than just a week ago and the possibility of a cold front actually moving through the Tampa Bay area could happen later in the week.

But when can we say that we’re officially done with the rainy season?

Early autumn dew cold fronts start pushing through our area, dew points return to the 60s, and precipitable water values drop significantly, meaning much drier air is in place in the upper levels of the atmosphere. The average date of the official start and end of the rainy season for the Tampa Bay area is May 25 and Oct. 10 respectively as shown in the graphic below.

So, get ready to reap the benefit of living in the Tampa Bay area weatherwise because October is right around the corner and soon it will look and feel beautiful outside while much of the country is dealing with cold and snow.
