HERNANDO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — A man and woman were killed and two people were injured in a head-on crash in Hernando County early Saturday morning.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 45-year-old Homosassa man was driving a Volkswagen Jetta southbound in the northbound lanes of SR-589 around 12:40 a.m.

At the same time, a 47-year-old Homosassa woman was driving a Honda Odyssey northbound on SR-589 when the Jetta crashed into the Odyssey head-on just north of County Line Road.

Both vehicles rotated and overturned following impact.

The Homosassa man and woman were pronounced dead at the scene.

The two passengers in the Odyssey — a 20-year-old Inverness woman and a 20-year-old Homosassa man suffered non-life-threatening injuries from the crash and were taken to a nearby hospital. Their conditions are unknown at this time.
