TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — A Hurricane Hunters engineer captured video from inside Hurricane Helene’s eye Wednesday after it formed along the Gulf of Mexico.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Hurricane Hunters are a group of pilots and researchers who collect data on hurricanes, which allows meteorologists and forecasts make predictions on the severe weather events.

TIMELINE: When will Hurricane Helene impact Tampa Bay?

Engineer Nick Underwood recorded the inside of Hurricane Helene while aboard NOAA’s “Miss Piggy,” one of the planes used to cut into the eyes of hurricanes.

“Listen to your local officials. Care for your neighbors,” Underwood wrote on X.

Hurricane Helene is forecast to become a Category 4 hurricane before making landfall along the Gulf Coast of Florida near Tallahassee.

The National Hurricane Center predicted Helene would bring “life-threatening storm surge, damaging winds, and flooding” to Florida and other states in the South.
