    Hernando County gives updates on measures being taken ahead of Hurricane Helene

    BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) — Hernando County Emergency Management held a news conference to discuss measures being taken ahead of Hurricane Helene on Thursday.

    The news conference was held at the Emergency Operations Center in Brooksville.

    Hernando County Is expecting an 8 to 12-foot storm surge.

    “We can expect the storm surge to last throughout the night and into Friday morning, so it’s going to be a long duration,” said David Decarlo, Director of Emergency Management

    The Hernando County Emergency Management team asks residents to be prepared for the storm surge. A mandatory evacuation is in place for zones A, B, and C.

    Hernando County has a public shelter in place at the West Hernando Middle School.

    According to the Hernando County Emergency Management team, roadblocks are in place for Shoreline Boulevard and Hernando Beach.
