TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Thursday night, crews prevented drivers from going across the bridges to and from Davis Islands because of flooding from Hurricane Helene.

Officials said access to Tampa General Hospital was still possible. However, accessing the Davis Islands neighborhood was not possible with a vehicle. Leaders blamed heavy rainfall.

This stems from the storm surge caused by Hurricane Helene.

A stretch of Bayshore Boulevard in Tampa from Platt Street to Euclid Avenue was shut down much of Thursday and into Friday. That’s because water from the nearby river made its way onto the typically busy street and into neighborhoods.

Officials in Tampa expected the southern part of the city to experience the worst flooding. There were also flooding reports along South West Shore Boulevard and along North River View Avenue.

Hillsborough enacted a mandatory evacuation for Evacuation Zone A along with all mobile and manufactured homes in the county. Their biggest concern was flooding.

As soon as the sun is up, officials expect to survey the damage.
